Harbourside specializes in construction engineering in support of heavy civil infrastructure projects. Our experience on these projects allows us to provide exceptional service for our clients by combining this experience with modern analysis techniques and sound engineering fundamentals. We work with our clients to develop practical solutions to fit their needs on projects of every size ranging fom small projects to the most challenging and complicated projects in Atlantic Canada and beyond.

Crane Lifts

Heavy lifts, such as girder launches, frequently require crane setups at the top of steep slopes or on the soft soils of a river's floodplain. We have successfully completed numerous projects where we assessed the stability of various crane setups and proided recommendations to ensure worker and site safety. These projects commonly include:

  • Slope stability analysis
  • Bearing pad design
  • Pile design to support ultra-heavy lifts



On sites where in-water work can't be practically avoided, cofferdams may be used to coomplete construction. Harbourside frequently carries out analysis and design of various cofferdam systems for use in construction. These projects commonly include:

  • Evaluation of the potential for soil piping and base instability
  • Estimation of flow rates to assess dewatering effort
  • Design of earthern or rock fill cofferdams
  • Working collaboratively with experienced structural engineers at Harbourside to sheet pile walls and other structural systems.


Embankment Construction

Harbourside has experience with embankment construction. We work with our clients to develop cost-efficient and safe designs. Often, construction of moderate to large road embankments on soft and very soft soils has the potential to result in slope stability concerns. We work with our clients to provide practical solutions such as staged-construction to allow safe construction of the slopes where these concerns exist. On numerous projects we have carried out detailed slope stability analysis and monitoring programs enabling accelerated fill placements to enable an efficient construction schedule while ensuring that adequate factors of safety against slope instability were maintained.
