Newfoundland Department Of Transportation And Works Bridge Design Peer Reviews

Project Description

Harbourside Engineering Consultants (HEC) has provided Peer Review services for two steel box girder highway bridges designed in-house by The Newfoundland Department of Transportation and Works (NLDTW).

Due to HEC’s strong reputation for the design of economical, durable and constructible bridges NLDTW contracted HEC to complete reviews of designs for both the Terra Nova River Bridge and the Exploits River Bridge. The Terra Nova River Bridge is a single span 75 m long, twin steel trapezoidal box girder bridge and the Exploits River Bridge is a 3 span continuous (63 m -84 m - 63 m), skewed twin steel trapezoidal box girder bridge.

HEC began review of both designs around the 70-80\\% design level completing full analysis of the proposed structures for strength and stability as well as providing detailed input to improve various details incorporating strength, stability, durability and constructability based on our extensive experience. HEC worked collaboratively with the Department’s design staff to which ultimately improved the designs and provided a high level of value, quality assurance and risk management to the Department.
